The Surgical Service unit has 3 OR’s plus an Endoscopy Suite, 7 private preoperative rooms and a 5 bay PACU
Types of Patients Served:
General Surgery including Endoscopy, Orthopedics, Obstetrics, Gynecological, Pulmonology, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmic, Pain Treatment and Cardioversions
Ages of Patients (if applicable):
We serve the community of toddlers to the geriatric population
Certifications Required of Nurses to work in this Unit/Department (can include type of Nursing model used in your department if applicable):
ACLS, PALS may be obtained in first and second year of hire respectively.
Certifications are encouraged after staff have worked in their specialty for 2 years. Areas of Certification are CNOR, CPAN, CAPA and SGNA.

The Surgical Service department focuses on the work life balance and offers a self-scheduling component. Staff lead process improvements within the department and often will cross train to other departments. There are always opportunities to learn new roles and responsibilities for professional growth. Although NCH is a small rural hospital there are many complex cases that lead to a stimulating environment for learning. Leadership is supportive and offers nurturing in a face paced every changing environment.
